Is stonebwoy’s new single – ‘cant cool’ directed to someone?

After the VGMAs the manager of Stonebwoy took to twitter to alert fans and media that his artiste has a message for everyone.

I was not shocked because everyone knows that the young talent was cheated when the most popular reggae / dancehall song of the year went to a different artiste but like they say better luck next time.

Everyone including myself was curious as to what will be in the message and whether it will be directed to the organizers.

After the long wait, the message came out and it was a song titled: ‘Cant cool’ produced by Richie.

The song is very heavy and as usual well delivered. The message in the song talks about the fact that nobody can kill or quench his fire.

In the song, Stonebwoy noted ‘you cannot prevent a fire from burning? Who is stonebwoy talking to and is he trying to make his stand clear?

I think that if you listen to the song, you can form your own conclusions but I know is that quality lasts forever while inferior dies out in no time.

Vybz Kartel Sentenced To Life In Prison For Murder

    vybz-kartel
    vybz-kartel

Vybz Kartel is almost out of options. The Jamaican dancehall star has been sentenced to life in prison, with no chance of parole until he serves 35 years.

In mid-March, Vybz (born Adidja Azim Palmer), was found guilty in the August 2011 murder of promoter Clive “Lizard” Williams.

The 38-year-old has remained behind bars for almost three years while awaiting trial, and after 65 days in court, a jury eventually voted 10-1 to convict Kartel and three other men on guilty charges. Prosecutors set out to prove that Williams was beaten to death in Kartel’s home, over two missing guns.

On Thursday (April 3) The Jamaica Gleaner reported that Vybz, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John were all sentenced to life in prison, with varying levels of eligibility for parole.

Both Campbell and Jones are eligible for parole in 25 years, while St. John will have to serve 30, and Vybz 35.

The defense still plans to appeal the verdict and Vybz Kartel’s lawyer, Tom Tavares-Finson, is specifically questioning the trial judge’s decision to allow certain phone evidence to be used in court.

According to Tavares-Finson, Jamaica’s Director of Public Prosecutions has commissioned an inquiry into the conduct of police investigators involved in the case. “I am of the opinion that the department cannot investigate itself and any such investigation should be done by the Independent Commission of Investigations,” Tavares-Finson told The Gleaner.

  • Nkulee Dube Trying To Resurrect The Spirit Of Her Late Father (LUCKY DUBE)

Nkulee Dube Trying To Resurrect The Spirit Of Her Late Father (LUCKY DUBE)

    NKULEE-DUBE1

In trying to resurrect the spirit of her late father, Nkulee Dube the daughter of South Africa Reggae legend Lucky Dube is brewing the recipe that will make her tie the laces of her late father.

Lucky Dube, who won numerous musical awards, is one of Africa’s greatest reggae exponents and artists who played a big part in spreading positive vibes and consciousness through his own brand of African and international reggae and world music.

Lucky Dube who helped South Africa to break free from the famous apartheid rule, placed African reggae firmly on the world front burner.

By mistake Lucky Dube  was shot dead after orchestrating reggae music in Africa for years.

    dube

And now his daughter Nkulee, who has already dropped songs, wants to have the same influence as his late father who knows she may just fit in the big boots of her father.

Nkulee has managed to fuse ethno-soul, jazz, and ethno-raga together as a vocalist, performer, and songwriter like no other artist.

Nkulee has already tested how deep the reggae waters are; this was after she featured as a guest artist and backing vocalist of her late father’s band ‘One People.’

Nkulee Dube has performed at numerous major festivals worldwide and the past two years she has toured the globe solo with her own band, thrilled fans wherever she performs and will be on the road again in the summer of 2013 in support of her first album, My Way. Her new album is currently being recorded in Johannesburg.

Realizing that her previous projects have never had much influence as her father she has now turned Godfather of African Reggae (Victor Essiet) to render an ingredient and charm needed for reggae music success.

For better musical prescription, Essiet and The Mandators, the Nigerian award winning platinum selling international Reggae and World Music band, is scheduled to collaborate in the studio with Nkulee on a new single ‘Africa Awake.’

This will be the first time Essiet and Nkulee Dube will be working together and it is expected to spark unity amongst Reggae artists in Africa.

The two artistes have come together to confront issues facing Africa head-on through music. The single is to be produced by super-producer, Carl McGregor (also the producer of Jill Scott, Prince, Christina Millian, Aretha Franklin, Jada Grace Gordy (granddaughter of the Motown founder Barry Gordy), and George Clinton, among others.

Essiet (known as the “Godfather of African Reggae”) and The Mandators have made a big impact with great critical acclaim in the world of Reggae music and the motherland of Africa.

Their brand new breakthrough single “Freedom Train” which is now available on iTunes and leading digital outlets worldwide such as Amazon shot to the top of reggae world chats soon after its release.

The single “Freedom Train” is currently on New York’s Top 30 Reggae Chart. Produced by Carl McGregor, the single also features the talents of up-and-coming hip-hop artist StyLis. More singles are on the way and the full album will be released soon.

Samini Music / HighGradeFamily appeals for VGMA review

    VGMA14

Check out the press statement from HighGradeFamily asking for a review of the Ghana Music Awards:

Over the years, there have been numerous controversies surrounding Charter House/Ghana Music Awards, the constitution of the board and consequent nominations thereof towards the annual Ghana Music Awards; all past sponsors are herein acknowledged.
However, of particular interest is the seemingly growing trend of Conflict of Interest that plaques the Board and its decisions, with traces to specific individuals such as Mark Okraku Mantey and the growing aspersions in the definition of categories, who qualifies and per what standards of criteria are followed per norms as pertains in other jurisdictions with emphasis on our very own turf.
    Of particular concern is as per a quote by Enoch Sarpong, a showbiz critic on facebook { Apparently Mark Okraku Mantey’s artiste KUMI GUITAR isnt a NEW ARTISTE….His FIRST VERSION of “break into two” song was released 2years ago….and was produced by SUGARTONE..}
    Questions need to be asked:
    1. As a private entity with due regards for the Ghanaian Laws, is Mark Okraku a manager/afilliated to an artiste known as “Kumi Guitar” and does this constitute a conflict of interest?
    2. Are the guidelines for nominations particularly “New Artiste of the year” explicitly clear to warrant an exclusion of Kofi Kinaata in same?
NB: the Number of shows performed by Kofi Kinaata, an artiste of HighGradeFamily, Interviews including on Dj Blacks Weekend shows… Airplay of his various songs et al as against the other categorized in “New Artiste of the year”
    3. Per the assertion by Enoch Sarpong (verifiable) that Kumi Guitar first released/promoted a song 2 years ago constitute a wrongful categorization of the said artiste and therefore requires a review of nomination(s) given the level of public agitation?
    4. Will Charter House and the VGMA Board for the first time, recall their decision, address and reannounce categories and nominations particularly those in question, for us” excluding Kofi Kinaata our Artiste from the New Artiste of the year category)?
    5. Will Charter House and its allied Bodies act on Mark Okraku Mantey’s abuse of conflict of interest provisions as affecting a general body and its decisions by excusing him from any further activities; By explaining the criteria on nominations for New Artiste thereby excluding our Artiste “Kofi Kinaata”; Will all parties consider brand effect on supervising a clear case of conflict of interest(legal issue) involving Mark Okraku Mantey, member of the VGMA board, whose self glorification seems to make him a touch not in Ghana Music Industry and on what basis he does so?
We will require answers, as these will go a long way to maintain some credibility in the Annual Event that highlights the best of Ghanaian music. The Media must help set things right.
